Lehigh acres is a city in Southwest Florida that lies on the outskirts of Fort Myers. Lehigh is 92.56 square miles with a population in 2010 of 86,784. Lehigh is considered as part of the Cape Coral- Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Lehigh got its start in the 1950’s when Chicago businessman Lee Ratner teamed up with a Chicago CPA, Edward Shapiro to buy Lehigh Acres and start selling land. Once home to the Buckingham Army field and a major Army Air Force training base, Lehigh Acres has grown exponentially in the last several decades. Both military institutions closed right after World War II but are still standing today.
Lehigh Acres is a great place for any age to visit and stay. With a home-like aura, you get the residential feel with attractions and beaches not far away. The Lehigh Chamber of Commerce puts on many gatherings throughout the year such as the Cinco de Mayo party, Kentucky Derby party, Pickin’ in the Park and many more.
