Cape Coral is a city located in Lee County, Florida and is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico with a beautiful, tropical landscape and climate. The city is 120 square miles and is the largest city in Southwest Florida as well as the largest city in between Tampa and Miami. Cape Coral is known as “Waterfront Wonderland” because of the 400 miles of canal that is located within, making it the city with most miles of canal than any other city in the world. In 2010, Cape Coral had a population of 154,305.
Cape Coral used to be known as “the other side of the river” until founded in 1957 by Leonard and Jack Rosen. The first roadway which is now Cape Coral Parkway, use to be called “the miracle mile” which was a 1 mile strip of roadway between Harney Point Rd (now Del Prado Blvd) and Coronado Pkwy. Growth in Cape Coral was rapid and residents began moving into the city in 1958.
Cape Coral has many landmarks catering to all ages such as Sunsplash Family Waterpark, Tarpon Point Marina, Cape Harbor, and the all new V.A. Hospital. The City of Cape Coral hosts many block parties and events throughout the year for everyone to enjoy such as”Red White and Boom” on July 4th, the yearly Winter Festival which dazzles kids with real snow and the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree, the Falls Farmers Market in Club Square, the monthly Bike Night on 47th Terrace and more.
