Bonita Springs is a city in Lee County, Florida that lies between Naples and Estero in southwest Florida. It is 41 square miles and in 2010 had a population of 43,914.
There is evidence that man has inhabited Bonita for over 8000 years. In the late 1800’s, development started in Bonita Springs and by early 1900’s, Bonita Springs was a fully functional city with residents, a post office and even a hotel to accommodate those looking for a place to stay in Bonita. In 1936, the Piper Brothers built an attraction that brought many visitors to Bonita Springs. The Everglades Wonder Gardens, still open today, houses many wild animals and native plants.
Today, many residents and guests enjoy the Everglades Wonder Gardens as a place to visit as well as the many beaches of Bonita Springs. A few other popular places to visit are Bonita Beach Park which is a 2.5-acre beachfront park that features a boardwalk and swimming area and Flamingo Island Flea Market, which features over 600 air conditioned spaces and offers over one million items on sale every weekend. There are many shops, art galleries and restaurants that line Bonita Beach and make it a great place to visit.
